Sabetha_ Holton_ Doniphan County_ and Hiawatha win

There were several NEK Legion games in action last night.

Sabetha played last night and won against Falls City 4-1. Dustin Lara was on the mound and only allowed two hits through 6 1/3 innings to collect his second win of the year. Tate Steinlage pitched 2/3 for his first save of the year for Sabetha. As for Falls City, Logan Faller only allowed five hits and three earned runs, but gets stuck with the loss. Out of those five hits, McKenzie McAfee had two of them. Sabetha finishes regular season play at 19-9 with a 5-5 league record, placing them fifth overall in the league. Sabetha also has won 12 of its last 14 games heading into their zone tournament. Falls City finishes 17-8 with an 8-4 league record, that puts them second in the league, and they also lost three of their last four games.

Also in action last night was Holton, who squeezed by Ozawkie, 12-11 in nine innings. Holton picked up a much needed win after losing six games in a row. Holton finishes their regular season 7-15 with a 3-9 league record, which puts them in seventh place in the league.

Doniphan County hosted Centralia and ended up winning 10-3. Elliot Nold picked up the win and Jared Hawkins came in for the save. Bryce Paden also had two hits with two RBI‘s for Doniphan County. As for Centralia, Phil Steinlage pitched 5 1/3innings and allowed four runs in his loss. Centralia finishes the season 4-12 with a 2-7 league record that puts them dead last in the league and also ends the season on a seven game losing streak. As for Doniphan County, they finish the season on a five game win streak and finish 13-7 with a 7-3 league record that puts them in third place.

In the final game of the night, Atchison hosted Hiawatha. Hiawatha picks up their third win of the week, winning against Atchison 3-2. Brendon Bock pitched seven innings and only allowed one earned run and recorded four strikeouts. Taylor Olson struck out Atchison‘s lead off hitter with the tying run at third to end the game. Olson also picked up his second save of the season. Hiawatha scored three runs in the fifth off no hits. Gabe Noll scored the eventual winnings run on a passed ball. As for Atchison, Brett Norris picked up the loss. Atchison finishes the season 5-13 with a 3-8 league record and they finished sixth in the league. As for Hiawatha, they still have a game in Marysville tonight at 7:30, which is the last regular season game. Hiawatha is 10-11 with a 6-5 league record and finishes fourth in the league.

Teams are now gearing up for Zone play, which will be hosted by Sabetha starting this Sunday, July 18th. Seneca goes in as the number one seed and Sabetha goes in as the number two seed. Both teams have a first round bye.
