There were several NEK Legion games in action last night.
Airing last night on Kanzaland Radio was Sabetha at Holton. On the mound for Sabetha was Riley Wells, who gave up no runs on 3 hits, 7 strikeouts, and 2 walks in 3 2/3 innings. Subway Player of the Game McKenzie McAfee, of Sabetha, was 3-3 with 3 runs and 2 RBI. Brock Boldra also had a good game for Sabetha going 3-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI. Dustin Lara contributed 2 runs from the ninth spot in the order. Sabetha tallied 13 hits total.
Dylan Bowser was the starting pitcher for Holton giving up 6 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks, and 3 earned in 1 2/3 innings of work. Holton pitched a total of three pitchers in four innings, walking 8 batters as a whole. Jackson Delay had Holton‘s only extra base hit, with a double in the 3rd inning. Holton also committed 4 errors in their sixth straight loss. The final score through four innings was Sabetha 16, Holton 0. Sabetha is now 18-9 overall, 4-5 in league. Holton comes out 6-15 overall, with a league record of 3-9.
Falls City visited Seneca last night to determine the NEK league champion. For Seneca, Derek Rottinghaus gets the win in a complete game shutout with 3 singles allowed. Eric Huerter provided one of the Seneca runs with a solo home run. Trent Scheitel pitched for Falls City going the distance in the loss. The final tally was Seneca 2, Falls City 0. NEK regular season champs, Seneca, finish the season 14-5 overall, 8-1 in league. Falls City finishes with an 8-3 league record, 17-7 overall.
Also in action last night Post 66 Hiawatha defeated Ozawkie 7-4. Hiawatha starter Nate Deforest allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits in 7 innings pitched. Taylor Olson was 2-3 with 2 RBI, Tanner Smith was 2-4, Jordan Marable went 2-5 with 3 stolen bases, and Gabe Noll was 3-4 with 2 runs scored. Hiawatha is now 9-11 overall, with their last game before Zone play being at Atchison.
In the final game of the night, Atchison hosted Centralia. Atchison came out the victors in a 9-1 game. Derek Henry took the loss. Centralia had bases loaded with one out twice, but no runs were scored. Centralia has lost 6 straight, dropping their record to 4-11 overall, 2-6 in league. Atchison has won 2 of their last 3 games improving to 5-12 overall, 3-7 in league.
Teams are now gearing up for Zone play, which will be hosted by Sabetha, starting Sunday. Seneca goes in as the number one-seed, Sabetha also has a first round bye as the two-seed.
