NEK LEAGUE TEAMS START STRONG IN DC TOURNEY

Falls City and DC win opener and Hiawatha edges Sabetha June 24th

The Doniphan County Invite Baseball Tournament opened in Wathena Thursday with two NEK League teams notching wins. Falls City beat Rock Creek 9-4 and Doniphan County beat Lansing 5-1.
Falls City is now 11-3 after Trent Scheital tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts for the win. Dillon Lotter had three hits and Trevor Harling scored three times for Falls City.
Jared Hawkins struck out 11 in a complete game effort as DC improved to 6-5. Paden Halter had a couple hits and three RBI for Doniphan County who plays Falls City Saturday evening at 8:15 in the semifinals.
First-round games continue Friday as Seneca plays Silver Lake at 6:00 then Atchison takes on defending champ KC Varsity.

In regular season NEK League action, Hiawatha edged Sabetha 3-2. Gabe Noll struck out eight batters to out-duel Riley Wells who fanned six. Tyler King had an RBI double for Hiawatha and the winning run scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning. Tate Steinloge had two hits for Sabetha who fell to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the league. Hiawatha is now 4-3 in the league and 5-7 overall with a game schedule Friday evening versus Rossville 7:30.

The Holton and Centralia legion game Thursday night was cancelled.
