Seven NEK legion league baseball teams were in action Wednesday, with Falls City playing the only non-league game.
Our featured game of the evening was Doniphan Co. at Centralia. Centralia won 7-0 and improved to 2-0 at home and 2-1 in the league. For Doniphan Co. it was their second straight loss sending their record to 5-5 and 3-2 in the league.
Centralia‘s Cody Trimble was the Subway Player of the Game, throwing a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits, walking two, and striking out five. He did not allow a hit after the third inning.
Blake Haynes of Doniphan Co. finished with two of his team‘s three hits.
Derek Nold took the loss, allowing four runs, however only one was earned, that being a solo homer by Joe Olberding to lead off the bottom of the fifth. D.C. accumulated eight errors as Centralia scored their seven runs on just five hits.
In a league contest that also counted as a second round matchup of the Tritsch Tournament, Seneca blanked Sabetha 4-0. Seneca will now play the winner of Holton vs. Marysville in the championship game.
Derek Rottinghaus kept the Sabetha (7-6, 1-3) bats guessing all night, going the complete way, yielding one hit and striking out 12. It was his second complete game victory against Sabetha this season.
Seneca (8-2, 3-1) managed just four hits against pitchers Reid Bruggeman and Dustin Lara, but scored once in the first and fourth innings, and added two more in the sixth.
Sabetha has now dropped two straight as Seneca has won eight of nine.
Elsewhere in league action, Hiawatha handed a home loss to Holton 4-3. Holton (4-9, 2-5) lost for the third time in four games.
Taylor Olsen pitched the complete game for the victory, striking out six.
Jordan Marable and Brendon Bock each had two hits for Hiawatha (4-7, 3-3).
Finally, in a non-league game, Falls City lost at home 4-1 to Auburn. The Auburn starting pitcher struck out an astonishing 19 batters.
Falls City had six hits, getting their run on a leadoff homer by Trevor Harling.
Mason Niemeyer was the losing pitcher, as Falls City is still atop the league standings at 5-1 and 10-3 overall.
